MBABANE – It’s a date.

Eswatini’s women Under-20 national team will start their AFCON Qualifiers 2021 with a match against Mozambique on Saturday at Mavuso Sports Centre, starting 1pm. The national Under-20 squad is currently at camp at the Eswatini Football Association’s (EFA) Technical Centre at Lobamba. After almost a month in camp, the national squad will host the Mozambican side then play their second-leg in Mozambique on August 28 or 29, 2021. The winner between the two will progress to face South Africa on the weekend of September 25 and 26, 2021, and the return leg scheduled for October 9 or 10. The EFA Communications and Marketing Officer, Muzi Radebe, confirmed the fixtures and extended well wishes for the team. The team is led by Coach Simphiwe Simelane and Simangele Sikhondze is their captain.

“It’s a World Cup qualifier for 2022 and after five rounds, only two countries remaining will represent Africa  in the finals to be played next year August. We believe that the coaches are doing a good job since they went to camp and we wish them the best of luck,” said Radebe. During a press briefing held last week, the head coach assured their readiness for the competition despite the disturbance imposed by COVID-19. “All is not lost and the girls are responding well. We are positive that by the time we play our opponents, we will be ready,” said Simelane.
