MALKERNS – Manzini-based cricket team Radio Shop Pak XL won the T2O League final in style, beating capital city giants Mbabane Cricket Club to clinch the trophy.

After three consecutive seasons of not getting a champions trophy, Radio Shop Pak XI’s dream to regain the championship title came true yesterday when they beat Mbabane Cricket Club by six wickets. The extremely amazing game took place at the Malkerns Country Club. Mbabane Cricket Club won the toss and opted to bat first. They seemed to be struggling in accumulating a lot of runs in their first ten overs. They were at 72/3 when passing the halfway. It’s middle-order batsman Junaid Hansrod (34 runs from 18 balls) who brought the batting innings into his flurry shots which also placed Mbabane Cricket Club at 162/7 at the end of the full quota of 20 overs.

When pursuing the target of 163 runs, Radio Shop Pak XI was almost in control of the game as they were at 54/0 by the end of the 5th over. They were far above the required RRR to comfortably reach the target. The batsmen in action were the openers Juber Ghadiyali (59 off 51 balls) and Naeem Gul (31 off 20 balls). It was from the eleventh over that Mbabane Cricket Club’s bowling had some effect and resistance on Radio Shop Pak XI’s batting attack. It needed the experience of cool-headed Asif Khan (17 off 4 balls) and Adil Butt (20 off 19) to maintain the pressure and safely reach the target. Radio Shop Pak XI reached the target in 18.2 overs at 165/4 and they won by six wickets. According to Operations Officer Mandla Dlamini, both teams were eager to win the final but at the end of the day, only Radio Shop Pak XL was crowned champions. “I would like to congratulate Radio Shop PAK XL for winning this year’s final. And Mbabane Cricket Club for reaching the finals, it shows that the standard of cricket in the country is growing,” said Dlamini.
