MBABANE – It has been over a year since boxing was last active in the country.

This was before COVID-19 struck Eswatini in March 2020 and government was forced to ban high-risk sports and boxing, like karate, have not had any competition since then. However, boxing junior coach Nkosinathi Dlamini of Stepping Razor Boxing Academy said individual training helped him to keep fit during the suspension of the sport. “For the love of the sport, we keep training ourselves at our respective gyms following the COVID-19 regulations, our coaches encouraged boxers to do more individual pieces of training at home,” said Dlamini. He said he was doing just that all this time and as a young coach, he was also doing personal training for interested individuals at home at the Mbabane Club Gym. He currently trains with other boxers among those who have joined him.

He also explained that at the gym, terms and conditions applied otherwise he also used boxing to help people lose weight, get fit, improve their boxing skills while he ensures they enjoy the fun part of the sport which he deemed exciting and very addictive once it gets into you. “To the ones with the power to bring boxing back, we would like him/her to bring back our sport, the combat sport. We want to box again following the COVID-19 rules and regulations as other countries are doing with the sport,” he appealed.
Dlamini further encouraged the nation to be safe from the deadly virus by always wearing a face mask, wash hands with soap and running water or hand sanitiser regularly.
