‘BUFFS’, LEOPARD FOR CAF COMPETITIONS

MBABANE – Finishing the first round first and second has earned Young Buffaloes and Royal Leopard a place in the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) inter-clubs competitions.

Buffaloes will be competing in the CAF Champions League while Leopard will play in the CAF Confederation Cup. Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), through the Chief Operations Officer (COO), Pat Vilakati, announced the teams yesterday. “Due to CAF inter-club competitions demands that participants of the said competitions be submitted on or before June 30, 2021, be advised that he PLE Executive Committee determined the matter that Eswatini will be represented by those clubs that had accumulated the highest points in the first round of the 2020/ 21 MTN Premier League,” read a statement from PLE.

Young Buffaloes finished the MTN Premier League first round top of the table while Royal leopard were second. “It is common cause that the deadline for submission of the team falls on June 30, 2021 and the league is still in progress, hence the reason to use the first round log,” continues to statement. Eswatini Football Association (EFA) which initiate clubs participation in the CAF inter-clubs tournament, said they were not aware that teams have been submitted as they were still in discussion with CAF concerning the representatives. “We are aware that the deadline for submission of the clubs to CAF is on June 30, and we are still in discussion with CAF concerning that matter. We are waiting for their response and we cannot commit on the tissue of teams submitted you are asking about,” said EFA Communications and Marketing Officer Muzi Radebe.

Radebe said teams to be eligible to play in the CAF inter-club should meet all the club licensing requirements. Royal Leopard Public Relations Officer (PRO) Frank Hurube said they had been made aware by PLE but they will not comment further as they are yet to report to the team President, Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) National Commissioner William Dlamini.
