MBABANE – Close to E2 million in earnings has collapsed to less than a million Emalangeni.

Signed last September by a DStv Premier League outfit, Eswatini international Felix Badenhorst who got released by TS Galaxy last week alongside four others including Reneilwe Letsholonyane, his transfer was reportedly worth E1.8 million over a three-year period. However, he has only lasted one year of his three-season long contract. Badenhorst was reported to earn a monthly remuneration of E70 000 and this figure amounts to eight months, which is the general length of a football season. On top of this, he was paid a E150 000 signing-on fee while other terms and conditions of the contract remain unknown but teams usually offer other incentives like match winnings and goals bonuses. Given his E70 000 windfall monthly which he was to get for the next three years, meaning for 24 months according to the football season period and the E150 000 signing-on fee, his earnings at the end of the contract would have stood at E1 830 000.

Package

However, his contract has been terminated with two more seasons to run on it. It remains to be seen if he will get a package to come as compensation for the termination of his contract which can see him perhaps getting slightly more than E1 million. At the current time, his earnings can be calculated to have stood at E560 000 in monthly remuneration plus E150 000 signing-on fee, totalling E710 000. These figures indicate the release of the player from the contract has cost him slightly over E1 million. It has actually cost him E1 120 000. Meanwhile, Badenhorst is currently with the national team Sihlangu expected to travel two internationals in Mozambique this weekend and next Monday.

He has already attracted interest from some local clubs, the first and only side to openly come out about it are Mbabane Highlanders but it would not surprise if once again, rivals Mbabane Swallows, who were the last team to clear the player to outside the country, first AS Vita and Mbombela United, joined in. No immediate comment could be drawn from the player as he is busy with the national team which has its media day this morning at Lobamba.
