MBABANE – The nomination process for the upcoming Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Presidential elections has been declared ‘unconstitutional’.

Former EFA Technical Director (TD and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Myengwa Sibandze, through his team Zinyane All Stars, said as primary members of the EFA they wanted the delegates to vote during the elections to be elected by them first. He alleged that some of the hopefuls that wanted to be part of the executive had been nominated unconstitutionally. He also alleged that some had used unorthodox ways to be nominated. The much eagerly awaited elections are billed for June 27 at a venue yet to be confirmed.

The EFA elections will be headed by an independent (Ethics) Committee) that comprises eight members chaired by Pigg’s Peak Senior Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini, whose vice-chairperson is Phumzile Thomo. They were officially unveiled during a continuation of an EFA extra-ordinary general meeting at the Happy Valley Hotel a fortnight ago. Zinyane All Stars FC, playing under the Mhlangatane Promotion League, have alleged that the nominations were not compliant with the EFA electoral code. The candidates for the elections are now in the eligibility check process.

Eligibility

The ethics committee announced last week that the eligibility check will be for all the nominated candidates as per the Electoral Code of 2021 and it is expected to be completed by tomorrow. The northern Hhohho-based team wrote a letter directed to the ethics committee and the EFA to address some of the concerns and investigate the allegations. Some of the allegations cannot be repeated as they have not been confirmed. “Following the issuance of circular number 160 on April 27, 2021 tittle, Ordinary General Assembly Notice, Zinyane All Stars has been confronted in the public space with wide spread rumours and the allegation of acts of corruption and unethical conduct, openly demonstrated by EFA and the members association executive committees,” reads part of the letter. Zinyane All Stars, who are under the directorship of Sibandze, said they were praying that the EFA and the ethics committee would act decisively and uproot the corruption that had manifested in the elections.
