MBABANE – A leopard is not changing its winning spots in the MTN League 2020/2021 season.

Yesterday’s 2-0 victory not ensured the police side remained the only unbeaten side in the league in 17 games but extended their lead at the summit of the log to four points with 13 games remaining. It was second half substitute Lungelo Tsabedze, who came in for his twin brother, Fanelo in the 56th minute, who netted the first goal in the 72nd minute before influential striker Muzi ‘Mzoro’ Dlamini put matters beyond the reach of the struggling Denver Sundowns with his 11th goal of the campaign.

notched

‘Mzoro’, the ‘Player of the month’ for April, is now three goals behind leading goal-scorer Young Buffaloes striker Phiwa Dlamini, who notched up his 14th goal of the campaign in the 1-all draw with Mbabane Swallows at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium on Saturday. While the police side gracefully extended their lead to four points, Sundowns ninth defeat of the season left the Manzini side two points away from the drop zone and now without a win in six games. The Manzini side, who were without coach Manuel Moaine, dominated the first half but missed three clear-cut chances and then ran out of steam late in the second half to then fall apart like a deck of cards. Striker Linda Maphalala should have done better when he found himself with acres of spaces inside the box, after being set up by Mancoba ‘Spider’ Maseko only to balloon his shot inches wide in the 25th minute. Six minutes later, Mike Dombo, when it looked easier to score than to miss, fired over the bar unmarked inside the box when Maphalala set him up with a well-weighted cross from the right flank.

angled

‘Spider’ Maseko thought he had found the back of the net three minutes after the hour-mark when his angled shot was flicked over the bar by the brave goalkeeper, Mlamuli Makhanya as Sundowns coach Arthwell Dludlu tore his hair in frustration on the bench. In this game of football if you don’t take your chances you are bound to be punished. Indeed, Leopard then took the lead in the 72nd minute when Fanelo Tsabedze picked up an inch-perfect lacerating pass from ‘Junior’ Magagula, which would have defied all the rules of geometry, before firing a low shot to the far corner of the net. Sundowns were still shell-shocked when two minutes later, Fanelo Tsabedze tuned provider with a beautiful cross from the right flank picked by the on-rushing, who scored a goal similar to the first one with another low shot to the far corner of the net for his 11th goal of the season.
