MBABANE – Acting Eswatini Football Association (EFA) president Comfort Shongwe has been nominated for the position by the Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA).

Shongwe, who has also been nominated by the Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) for the vice presidency position, is set to battle it out with Mashumi Shongwe and Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane, who have all been nominated. Also nominated for the vice presidency position, which will be filled by two candidates, is former Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) chairman, Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula. Other names being touted for the vice presidency include current Athletics Eswatini (AE) president Zakhele Dlamini, former PLE Executive Committee member, Steve Horton, among others.

The Times Sports Desk has reliably gathered that Manzini Sea Birds owner and current EFA vice president Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane has been nominated for the presidency by two of the regional associations being Lubombo and Manzini. “Samora has two nominations so far for the presidency with the Lubombo FA preferring him as well as Sikhumbuzo Dlamini and Ace Mashwama for the vice presidency,” a highly-placed source confided in this newspaper yesterday.

The Shiselweni Regional Football Association (SRFA) has pencilled its former Chairman, Mashumi Shongwe, who is also an Executive Committee member of the Premier League of Eswatini and challenged for the presidency in the last election in 2017, for the presidency position. Also nominated by Lubombo FA to be a member is current secretary Sicelo Nene and Eswatini Referees Association (ERA) Chairman Sipho Kunene, who have also been both pencilled in for the same position by the Hhohho FA.

EFA Marketing and Communications officer Muzi Radebe said they were compelled by the Electoral Code not to divulge any information of the elections to the public at this point. He, however, did state that the nomination process is open today.  “Article 10 of the electoral code does state that the official lists of the nominees shall be sent to the members at least 14 days before the elective conference. That’s all I can say,” Radebe said. The man to replace long serving EFA president Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa will be elected during the elective conference on June 27 at a venue yet to be announced.
