TWO TEAMS TO BE RELEGATED

Two teams will be relegated from the 16-team MTN Premier League at the end of the season. The same number of teams will be promoted to the elite league from the MTN National First Division League. This is according to the amended 2020/21 MTN Premier League Rules and Regulation that were presented to the Board of Governors meeting yesterday. In the previous rules and regulations, it was indicated that three teams were to be relegated and it was not clear as how many teams were to play in the elite league.

“The three (3) clubs that have the least number of points on completion of the league and/or positioned 14th, 15th and 16th in the final log standings, shall be relegated from the premier league division to the National First Division League and the clubs finishing in the top two positions of the MTN National First Division League shall be promoted to the premier league division,” reads the previous rule and regulations. Both leagues would continue with the same number of teams next season with 16 in the premier league and 14 in the First Division League. PLE Chairman Mark Carmichael confirmed yesterday that they received a circular from the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) that cleared the air concerning promotion and relegation.

“Four clubs will be relegated from First Fivision league with the same number promoted from the four regional leagues. EFA will be working on the strategy on how they will be promotion from the regional level as they had not been playing,” he said. Meanwhile, it was announced during the meeting that knockouts tournaments, being the EswatiniBank Cup and the Ingwenyama Cup have been officially postponed to next season. This was enforced by the fact the regional football was postponed to next season. With the second round of the MTN Premier Legaue to kickoff tomorrow, Malanti Chiefs are at the basement of the log with six points after the 15 matches, while Mhlume Peacemakers are second from the bottom with 11 pints. Some other teams who are in the relegation quagmire are Tambankulu Callies, Tinyosi, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows, Moneni Pirates and Manzini Sundowns.
