‘BOMBER’ CALLS ME ‘MALEMA’ FOR A REASON’

The mere mention of his name sends shivers down the spine of many weak-kneed football officials.

He has successfully challenged the football status quo in the highest courts of the land. Disillusioned, disappointed and discarded from the football corridors of power, he has wormed his way back. Now he wants to go for the big prize again – the head honcho position of the country’s football. He has been the persona-non-grata for a long time, not more-so when he challenged the long-serving president Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa in the 2017 EFA elections.

His name is Mashumi Shongwe, a firebrand football administrator who like many sane football people in the continent and beyond, supports that great institution founded in Orlando East in 1937 – Orlando Pirates Football Club. He not only talks about football but is in awe of the great work done by the Man above, God, whom he describes as “God of bad times and God of good times, God of the mountains and God of the valleys, God of the night and God of the day,” Ladies and gentlemen, we have one of the EFA presidential hopefuls, Mashumi Shongwe in the Chairman’s chair today and he fires indiscriminately from all cylinders.
