MBABANE – Young and upcoming golfer Nosmilo Kgomo has revealed where she gets her inspiration.

Kgomo, this past weekend was the runner-up in the MTN Monthly Masters. She lost to the eventual winner Wakie Lawrence. The latter won the tournament on a score of 43 points after a count-back. Kgomo on the other hand also amassed 43 points losing after a count-back to Lawrence. It is not normal for ladies to compete for honours in the Mbabane Golf Club major tournaments namely the MTN Masters and ESRIC Monthly Mug. However, Kgomo, a 20-year-old golfer from Lobamba has repeated this feat on numerous occasions shining mostly on the novelties and always winning the best lady award and longest drive.

Awards

Nosmilo on the day did not only come second but she won three more awards. She was the best lady, won the longest drive in the female category and also took home the nearest pin 2/11 award. Interestingly as she excelled on the day, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo was also playing alongside MTN CEO Wandile Mtshali. This past weekend Kgomo made a statement when she challenged for honours, almost winning the tournament among local top golfers. Asked what was the secret when she had started golf in 2015, she said; “In fact I used to play tennis but one day I saw Nobuhle Dlamini’s sister Goodness carrying her golf bag. I asked her to help me learn how to play the sport and she did. I started enjoying the sport and I was motivated as I started winning,” she said. Asked where she got clubs, she said; “Mrs Toepfer and Patson Dlamini bought me the golf clubs and I am grateful to them for helping me out,”she said. She said she was hoping that one day she would be a professional golfer just like Tiger Woods.
