MBABANE – He will contest for the presidency position in his own terms.

Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) Chairman Nichodemus ‘Ace’ Mashwama will contest for the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) presidency position, but only through his terms. Mashwama qualifies for contesting the presidency position as he has served for nearly 16 years in local football administration despite that he had a two-year break. According to Mashwama, he will only contest for the presidency position only if he gets nominated by members of the Lubombo Region. “I will wait for Lubombo to talk, then I can only wait for support from the other regions,” he said.

nominated

According to the chairman, even if he gets nominated for the presidency position from another regions or constituencies, he will not accept the nomination. “Say for instance I am nominated by the Shiselweni Region, it would not be practical even for my campaigning exercise simply because other regions would probably be reluctant to render their support due to the fact that they would feel that there was vote of no confidence in my own constituency,” he said. The Lubombo chairperson added that the reason he would turn down the nomination from another constituency was the fact that he would look at the opportunities when he started campaigning on how he could actually change people’s ideas or perceptions. “As things stand, I think I can be happy if I contest for the position of vice-president,” he said.

Mashwama further disclosed that he would have gladly accepted a nomination to be president from another constituency if he was already the vice-president or a member of the current executive committee of the EFA as he would be then without a constituency but serving nationwide. Meanwhile, the local football mother body will take to the polls of June 27 and the most interesting position to be filled is that of the candidate to replace Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa as president. Other possible candidates for this position include the Acting President Dr Comfort Shongwe, Vice-President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane, Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Member Mashumi Shongwe and Timothy Shongwe.

earmarked

It has been reliably gathered that former PLE’ Chairman Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula along with former colleague Steve Horton are among those earmarked for nomination for the vice-president seats.
