TAMBANKULU - Young Buffaloes are determined to defend their title as the MTN Premier League champions.

This, after as they massacred Mhlume Peacemakers 4-0 yesterday afternoon at Tambankulu Stadium. Buffaloes bagged three points against Mhlume Peacemakers resulting from Phiwayinkhosi Dlamini’s historic hat-trick scored within three minutes. Referee Thokozani Dlamini awarded Buffaloes a penalty in the 54th as a prize for Phiwayinkhosi, who was fouled inside the box, an opportunity Dlamini seized without giving it a second thought.
Seconds after nailing the first penalty, Peacemakers’ porous defence gave Phiwayinkhosi another chance to score the second after the first penalty making it 2-0.

A frustrated Peacemakers lived to regret their incalculable aggression in chase of a goal which also earned the log leaders a second penalty which Phiwayinkhosi accurately planted behind goalkeeper Moses Manortey to make it 3-0 despite relentlessly pinning down the army side to a goalless first half. Last season’s top goal scorer Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze also took one home in 64th minute to cement their dominance of the league which has turned into a four-horse race between the forces’ teams including Royal Leopard, Green Mamba and Mbabane Swallows.

Defeat

This was Peacemakers’ eighth defeat in 12 games, which leaves them stuck in the bottom half of the 16 team-log table, now having conceded a total of 27 goals and in possession of 10 points. Peacemakers import coach Julius Chakupewu remains hopeful for redemption in the remaining four games of the league’s first round with fingers crossed to finally field three foreign players who are still struggling to get their registration documents in order.
The sugar belt boys did not take their defeat lying down, but gave Buffaloes a good run for the E350 000 tabled for the winners of this tightly contested league first round winners. Travelling over 100 kilometers to honour the game paid handsomely for the Sabelo Mnisi led raging Young Buffaloes considering league rivals Royal Leopard threatening to dethrone them from the crown as they have one game in hand over them.
