MBABANE – He is ready for the next challenger.

Manzini Pool Club player Eddie Mkhonta awaits his third challenger to cement his win of the floating trophy pool challenge. Mkhonta snatched the trophy from prominent player Nathi ‘Bhubesi’ Sihlongonyane and bagged his second victory against Police Academy Pool player Brian Raynor on Friday. As per the rules of the game, a player needs to beat three players consecutively to earn complete ownership of the trophy, with each match carrying a E2 000 cash prize. In the recent match, Mkhonta won by 13-3 as he made his intentions clear from the onset and won eight frames to make it 8-0. Raynor retaliated by winning two frames to place the score to 8-2.

Determined

The determined Mkhonta stretched his lead 10-2 after winning the 11th and 12th frame. Raynor’s effort to put parity on the shoreline was insufficient as his best only saw him win only one more frame, taking the score to 10-3 and Mkhonta nailed the next three frames to make it 13-3 thus clinching the E2 000 champion’s prize. In the doubles’ category, the duo of Senzo Simelane and Amahle Mabuza also took home E2 000 after recording a marginal 9-8 win against Sonic Dlamini and Senzo Matsebula. In the next fixture, Matsebula will pair up with Amahle Mabuza and battle it out against team Sakhile Nkambule and Rasta Ngidi. Tournament Coordinator Scelo Mndzebele said the single’s trophy challenge would return next week. “Due to work related commitments, we won’t be having the singles’ game but rest assured we will host one next week,” said Mndzebele.
