TAMBANKULU – The award of the ‘draw-kings’ of the MTN league 2020/2021 goes to Mbabane Highlanders.

Yesterday, it was at the hands of Mhlume Peacemakers who forced a 1-all stalemate only nine minutes before the end of regulation time as the capital city giants suffered their sixth draw of the season that is beginning to go all pear-shaped. Mancoba Mahlalela’s diving header to drive in a thunderous ball to the back of the net from an Issa Serry delivery on the left flank was enough to cancel out Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa’s first half goal. The capital city giants had taken the lead in the first minute of the five minutes added by referee Thokozani Dlamini in the first half. The Sihlangu forward, who has now scored six goals this season, finished at close range from a Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule corner-kick.

Gifted South Africa-born forward Kenneth Moloto had his initial shot deflected out of the field of play. Highlanders dominated from the onset and were unlucky not to get three points from this one. ‘Mlaba’, ‘Sikhali’ and Moloto all missed glorious chances in the first stanza where they should have converted. Peacemakers goalie Dumisani Dlamini was the busiest in-between the poles. He did well to deny Sikhali one-on-one just before recess to keep the score at 1-0 at half time. Even before recess, Coach Dumisani ‘DU’ Makhanya tried new combinations taking out the trio of Colani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze, Mncedisi Dlamini and Lindani ‘Rio’ Matsenjwa for Simphiwe Manana, Menzi Mamba and Sibonginkhosi ‘Gudas’ Dlamini.

The second half did not produce much save for the fact that Highlanders should have scored seven minutes into the second stanza, but Philani Mkhontfo’s strike rattled the goalpost back into play. The results mean Highlanders, who will be facing Mbabane Swallows in the Mbabane derby this weekend, now have 12 points in eight games. Peacemakers on the other hand remain with four points after also having played eight games and are still second from the bottom of the log.
