NHLANGANO – Manzini Sea Birds handed struggling Mhlume Peacemakers their third straight defeat of the season.

A first half goal and two second half goals were enough to hand Gcina Dlamini’s charges the first win of the season as Izinyoni Zolwandle had played draws for their first two opening games. Mthokozisi Gwebu scored the first goal for Sea Birds in the referee’s additional time before recess by looping over a charging Peacemakers’ Dumisani Dlamini.

Rested

Sandumuzi Zwane found the second goal for Sea Birds before being rested by the coach 20 minutes before full-time. Sea Birds’ third goal was scored by Bhekumuzi Mamba at regulation time. The visitors were able to pull one back through substitute David Igor nine minutes before the hour-mark. In the first half, Sea Birds showed their intentions at the beginning by creating more chances but failing to find the back of the net. Mkhuleko Magagula’s dangerous delivery was well cleared by Sphamandla Manana towards the half-hourmark as both sides failed to break the deadlock. Izinyoni Zolwandle appeared to be the stronger side to win this one utilising versatile Gcinizwi Dlamini in the middle of the park to initiate attacks using mostly the wings. Intact Peacemakers’ defence forced Sea Birds to rely on long range efforts with Muzi Tsabedze coming to play deep.

Looping

It took Mthokozisi Gwebu to open the score sheet in added time of the first stanza looping beautifully over a charging Peacemakers goalie when Bongani Nxumalo’s troops had anticipated an off-side but Sea Birds did well to beat the offside trap and make it 1-0. Peacemakers were able to find the equaliser only 10 minutes from recess as Igor blasted at close range but the odds were in favour of the home team who were at the end the victorious side. Coach Gcina Dlamini introduced former Mbabane Highlanders’ creative winger Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze who assisted in the third goal.
