MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers will be without their captain Mthunzi ‘Chippa’ Motsa.

The hub giants visit Mhlume Peacemakers for an MTN Premier League fixture at Nsukuwansuku Stadium on Friday. The left-back will miss this important clash following an ankle injury he is currently nursing. According to sources close to the matter, the former Moneni Pirates player has been struggling with the injury for quite a while. “It is a pre-existing injury that recurred during national duty,” said a source close to the matter.

The defender formed part of the 24-member tentative squad Dominic Kunene selected for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Guinea Bissau and Senegal. On Monday, Wanderers’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mlungisi ‘Mluga’ Ndzinisa told listeners on national radio, the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services’ (EBIS) Sports Show that the team was preparing for the upcoming fixture. “All preparations are going well and the team is ready to face its next victim in the field of play,” said Ndzinisa.

Flawless

Noteworthy is that the maroon and white outfit were flawless in the opening fixtures of the 2020/21 MTN Premier League, playing a 2-all draw against Denver Sundowns and winning 2-1 against Mbabane Swallows. On another note, Ndzinisa disclosed that they had since vacated the Trade Fair Sports Ground and have changed to a state-of-the-art training facility at Malkerns Country Club. He assured Wanderers loyalists that everything was good at the team and their South African directors were working hard to assist the team in any way possible.

Ndzinisa said the ‘Weslians’ supporters must keep in mind that when work is carried out, challenges will be there now and there but because Wanderers was the biggest team in the country, people with ulterior motives will blow it out of proportion just to bring the Wanderers brand into disrepute. He warned their supporters to guard against such and reassured they will have a good season ahead. Noteworthy is that the hub giants had made it no secret in recent times that the aim was to compete well and eventually qualify to go and participate in one of the CAF inter-club competitions.
