‘CALIBRE OF OFFICIALS IN BOGS THE PROBLEM’

MBABANE – Former Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zakhele Dlamini believes the root cause of the challenges of the organisation is the calibre of the people representing teams in the Board of Governors structure.

Dlamini, who served the organisation diligently after appointment on July 20, 2010, said some members of the PLE Board of Governors tended to put their personal and club’s interest ahead of the organisation. “The independence of the PLE is extremely compromised considering the direct representation of the clubs in the BOGs organ. We have witnessed a pattern of direct influence on decisions linked to the leadership on the steering wheel,” he said. Dlamini, who was the second CEO in the PLE after Vulindlela Kunene, said a  professional CEO would not agree to sell his profile to appease the Executive Board of the day against the organisational statutes and/or policies.

“The root course is the calibre of the individuals who make it to the PLE BOGs,” he said. The new PLE Executive Committee headed by Mark Carmichael faced with the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic has been trying to find their footing in steadying the ship – administratively and financially. The uncertainty surrounding the EswatiniBank Cup sponsorship coupled with over-reliance on Eswatini Football Association (EFA) funding in the midst of settling legal bills with two estranged CEO’s Simanga Nhleko and Zwelonkhe ‘Sport’ Dlamini has been the pain in the posterior for the executive committee barely seven months in the office.
