LOBAMBA – They are upbeat ahead of the game.

Sihlangu players are upbeat ahead of their tough 2022 AFCON Qualifier against Guinea Bissau to be played tomorrow at the Mavuso Sports Centre. Speaking in separate interviews during the media day at the Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday morning, the squad’s captain Lindo Mkhonta said they had started preparations and everything was going according to plan. “All the players in camp are at the same level in terms of commitment and discipline. It is even difficult to tell that some of us have not been active because we are all working very hard,” he said.

The Young Buffaloes’ defender added that they were determined to make Eswatini football followers proud in the two upcoming games. “We will not be playing for a draw in the two games but to win. It is important that we defend well and we will also make sure that we score goals to win the games,” he said. He admitted that the untimely death of their nutritionist Fundo Mabuza hit them hard mentally but said they were slowly overcoming the trauma. “When we were informed of his demise, it killed us mentally because he was like one of us. The coaches spoke to us and the mood is getting better in camp now,” the defender said.

South African based attacking winger Justice ‘Figa’ Figuareido shared the same sentiments, stating that he was happy to be back in the squad representing his country of birth. “It feels very good to be back in the national team after being out of action for sometime due to injury. We will do our utmost best to win the coming games and make the nation proud,” the former Maritzburg United and Mbombela United player said. Mbabane Highlanders’ striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa said it was every player’s dream to wear the national team jersey.

“It is true that the preparations have not been ideal because of the time factor as players must be at a certain level of fitness when preparing for such games. We must, however, give our best to win these games despite the circumstances we are facing because the truth is that some of us are not at the same level of fitness due to lack of matches,” the free-scoring forward said. He declared confidently that given the chance, he would grab every available opportunity to find the back of the net as many times as possible.
