MBABANE – If the value of players is anything to go by, Senegal would beat Sihlangu hands down – any day.

According to transfermarkt.com, the Senegal squad to face Eswatini is valued at E6 billion. Sihlangu will cross swords with the Lions of Teranga on March 30 at Lat Dior Stadium in Dakar, Senegal. Kick-off time is 6pm. The stadium has a capacity of 20 000. Just on Wednesday, Senegal head coach Aliou Cissé announced the squad to face Eswatini. Some of the players in the squad include the most expensive player in the Senegal squad, Sadio Mane.

Valued

The Liverpool player is valued at E1.7 billion which is roughly a third of the Senegal squad value. The second most expensive is Napoli centre-back and Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly who is worth E1 billion with Chelsea goalkeeper  Edouard Mendy valued at E436 million. He is tied with Paris Saint Germain(PSG) centre back Abdou Diallo. The Eswatini squad, on the other hand, is valued at E3.5 million. Sihlangu’s highly valued player is TS Galaxy’s Justice Figareido at E2.6 million with Felix Badenhorst valued at E873 000. All the other Sihlangu players are not valued on transfermarkt.com.

Sihlangu Captain Lindo Mkhonta said while it was true that they were playing a strong team, their value would not count when the two sides met. “While the value of a player might be  equivalent to his strength, that should not scare us as Sihlangu players. If we managed to hold the E6 billion squad for 45 minutes at Mavuso in the first-leg, we can match them pound-for-pound for the whole 90 minutes,” said Mkhonta. Sihlangu only conceded in the four goals within a space of 17 minutes. The first Senegal goal in the first-leg of the Africa Cup of Nations was in the 59 minutes and the last goal was in the 76 minutes. The Lions of Teranga scored via the boot of  Famara Diédhiou, who plays for a Championship side, the second tier of English football, Bristol City. He netted a hat-trick with Stoke City midfielder Badou Diaye scoring the fourth goal. The solitary goal was scored by Young Buffaloes winger Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba.
