MBABANE – Denver Sundowns goalkeeper Lwethu Simelane and Vovovo’s Mxolisi Tsabedze are finally back home.

The two players were in Slovakia since September when initially they were set to go to Denmark. They ended up trying their luck in Slovakia. Retired FIFA Accredited Agent Pastor Victor McDonald, who facilitated the move, reportedly purchased the two players plane tickets to return home, something he also confirmed to this publication. Sundowns Chairman Mark Carmichael said they were happy that the duo was back home. “We hope they had a good experience,” he said. The chairman added that COVID-19 contributed to the current football climate being what it is now. “We hope this situation passes and these players can realise their dreams when the situation is back to normal,” he said.

Information gathered was that pressure from their teams and emaSwati prompted McDonald to facilitate their return to the kingdom. Their initial move from home was for a top Danish side but they did not make it to Denmark. The team from Denmark wanted the duo to join them at the start of the season, which was in August. However, the deal was stalled due to COVID-19 as a result they could not move from Slovakia, where they were stuck with SKO Velka IDA. In April last year, the Sports Desk quoted Mcdonald saying; “The deal to Denmark was to be concluded with their clubs in Eswatini in February, before the coronavirus lockdown. We are still waiting for a word from Denmark. So, let’s wait and see what happens after the lockdown.”

Flights

Quizzed on the latest developments, McDonald said; “Lwethu and Mxolisi are in Slovakia. They have not been able to come back home because there are no flights for them,” he said briefly. When asked why there were no flights for them, he said in Slovakia they were still in partial lockdown. When asked what they were doing in Slovakia, he said they were training. “They are in Slovakia not Denmark.  They have not been able to proceed with the Denmark deal because of COVID-19,” he revealed. When asked exactly what was next for the duo now, he said; “It’s either they go to Denmark or they come back home because the Danish are not allowing foreigners for now,” he said. Meanwhile, these players faced a similar situation as Mbabane Swallows player Leon Manyisa whose deal in Europe with Armenia’s FC Van did not materialise and was forced to return home.
