MBABANE – Immediately after government lifts the partial lockdown, Zithande Athletics Club will host a physical boot camp.

Online boot camps have proven not to be effective or yield the desired results according to Coach Nsizwa Thwala. After government imposed the lockdown, the athletics club resorted to online boot camp sessions through Facebook. “For the March boot camp which we were supposed to host last weekend since we host boot camps every first weekend of the month, it was not much of a success. This is because we now do it online but we have decided to wait for government to ease the lockdown regulations,” he said.

He said they could not get or reach most people through the online training because many people did not have Facebook and the data to be live for two hours of the session. “Many people prefer to see the trainer in front of them. Training is a must to keep our immune system healthy. We are ready to host the boot camp and we hope it will be staged at a sports ground,” said the coach. Meanwhile, for a number of weeks during the lockdown, the club athletes had been on detoxification. Detoxification (detox for short) is the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, including the human body, which is mainly carried out by the liver. “We always preach the gospel of not only training but eating healthy, but then let’s say you have crossed the red line and ate a lot of junk food this past festive season. We cannot as a team disown you but we can work around to get back to doing the right thing,” Thwala said.

He said the session was for all those who were interested in detoxification. “While it is true that the body can naturally detox itself, but it can’t cope with the high volume of junk food or drinks,” he said. He advised that everyone should detox to free their bodies and do it the fruits and vegetables way, which he said was the natural way. “For seven days, we eat only plants (fruits and vegetables), eating them fresh, raw, with no sugar, salt, no animal products, meat, fish, egg, etc,” he said. He said this session helped participants to lose weight or gain muscle. He also highlighted that this would be a way to service your body and also teach athletes discipline.
