MBABANE – EFA members will take the final stand.

A debate has ensued over the car used by outgoing Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa. Apparently, some members of the EFA are of the view that the long-serving Mthethwa be given the car to keep as a token of appreciation for his loyal service to football over the years. The country’s football mother body recently bought a new car for the president, which is less than a year old, but he will be forced to surrender it when he finally leaves office at the end of this month.
This is because the car, the new model Toyota Hilux, was bought for him in his capacity as EFA President, which means it must remain the asset of the association when the now Eswatini Olympics and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) President officially takes up his new challenge.

However, some members feel ‘Bomber’ must be given the car to keep as a way of thanking him for his loyal service to Eswatini football. “The president is not entitled to any benefit when he leaves office because such is not provided for in the constitution governing the game in the country. Some members feel he must be given the car to keep as a token of appreciation for his long service but this is a decision to be taken by the general assembly in the next EFA AGM around June. “This therefore means he must surrender the car to the association when he leaves office until such time that the affiliates take a stand on what must happen with the car,” a trusted source in the EFA executive committee confided. Sought for comment, EFA’s Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said as far as he knew, the car used by the president is an asset of the association. “The car was bought for the office of the president and that means it is an asset of the association. I would not want to commit myself on whether or not the car will be given to the president,” Radebe explained. The car used by the president is said to have cost the EFA about E600 000. ‘Bomber’ could not be immediately reached for comment as he is currently away in Morocco for the CAF General Assembly.
