MBABANE – Promoting the spirit of brotherhood.

Bodybuilder and fitness coach Arnaldo Barbosa has received a generous sponsorship of E10 000 from fellow bodybuilder and businessman Alex Fomanou, who is the director of Yonder Super Fit Tyres Company. The sponsorship is intended for financing the sixth Barbosa Classic competition that is scheduled for July 23, 2021 and the venue will be communicated in due course. The host of the show extended words of appreciation to Fomanou stating that the money would go towards prizes for the competition.
“I am short of words for the support I get from Alex. He is a very good friend and happens to be my personal sponsor as I look forward to competing in the World Championships that were cancelled last year,” said Barbosa.

preparation

Typically, contests preparation for a show follow a minimum of two to four months diet plan. With the show slated for the next five months, Barbosa encouraged the athletes to stick to their programmes and consult professional fitness coaches for advice and guidance. The primary goals are shredding fat and increasing muscle size before hitting the stage. Each person begins at different body fat percentage and muscle size. “It’s going to be bigger and better this time. We are still finalising the prizes which will definitely be increased compared to the last show,” said Barbosa.

The latest Barbosa Classic was staged in 2019 at House on Fire and was won by South African athlete Ndumiso Dlodlo, who scooped a whopping E5 000 cash prize. Eswatini’s legendary bodybuilder, Simanga Maziya, emerged as the champion in 2016 and 2018. Maziya officially announced his retirement after receiving his trophy and gold medal in 2018 at Emfuleni Lifestyle while  Sanele Msibi was crowned champion of the 2017 edition.  “The line-up and details of the registration will be announced in due course and we are working on the finishing touches of the event. I would like to encourage more ladies to join the competition,’ said Barbosa. He further acknowledged other bodybuilders that have played a commendable role in inspiring a lot of people to join the sport.

“It’s impressive to see the growth of bodybuilding in the country. This year we are expecting to see first time contenders from across the country especially in the rural areas. A lot of athletes from neighbouring countries like Mozambique and South Africa have already confirmed their participation. Expect nothing but fireworks,” said Barbosa. In light of COVID-19, Barbosa said the show would be held under safe guidelines to ensure the safety of the athletes and audience. Anyone who is willing to contribute towards the show can contact Barbosa on 7860 8684 or 7960 8684.
