MANZINI – The National team, Sihlangu Coach Dominic Kunene, believes that his former side, Young Buffaloes can pull a shocker away in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs against Etoile Sportive du Sahel.

He said the performance of the home side in the 2-1 defeat was giving hope that anything was possible in the second leg billed for Sunday in Tunis. Kunene was among the watching guest during the first leg match played at Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday, with no fans allowed in.

Kunene said it was hardly noticeable that one team had a long layoff while the other was active. Buffaloes had only played one match in the current year that was the 4-1 defeat against DR Congo AS Vita on January 6, while du Sahel had played five home matches ahead of the game yesterday.

positives

“There were lot of positives that I witnessed from the home side especially in the second half. They gave it all, but missed scoring chances. I believe that anything is possible even away and the team needs to improve in some departments,” he said.

Kunene, who will be leading Sihlangu next month in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022 Qualifiers, after his one-year contract was renewed recently, said he will have to meet Buffaloes Coach Sabelo Mnisi and share some tips with him.

“It will be good that I advise him ahead of the second leg. The team really did well today and they need to keep their heads up,” he said.

Buffaloes will travel this week to Tunisia for this second leg billed for next Sunday. Kunene was in charge at Young Buffaloes when they were eliminated by South Africa Bidvest Wits last year in the preliminaries.

Buffaloes’ needs to win the away match with a difference score of two goals if they are to reach the group stages for the first time.
