MBABANE – He is all about promoting the ‘spirit of ubuntu’ and creating friends, not enemies.

That is Mbabane Highlanders director, Ally Kgomongwe, who has come out to say if traditional rivals. Mbabane Swallows, had sought his assistance in paying the E16 000 monthly bill for the Sprinter bus he would have gladly paid it on their behalf.

“To be honest, I would have bought the bus if it was with Swallows and give it to them but it belonged to the bank. If they had even said they can’t pay the E16 000 bill anymore and they had approached me and raised their hands, I would have helped. We are brothers and we are not enemies,’ he said.

Kgomongwe said it is about time people understood that in football, you cannot afford to have enemies. “I like the words often uttered by Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza here in South Africa about the derby when he says inside the field of play, they compete but off the field they co-operate with Kaizer Chiefs. That is the spirit we should advocate for between these two teams. We need each other,” he added.

He insisted that buying the Sprinter was purely a business decision, not trying to prove a point to anyone or being obsessed with Swallows. “That bus is quality, it is a Mercedes Benz, it has clocked 51 000 kilometres. If it was another brand, say VW, I would not have bought it,” he said.
