MBABANE – Yet another Mbabane Highlanders former player has passed on.

Midfielder Sibusiso ‘Mbazo’ Dlamini, who played for Highlanders around 2006 to 2008, passed away on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at the Luke Mission Hospital in Sidvokodvo.

“He was admitted last Friday during the day complaining of a headache and I was with him at that moment. I later received the news that he had passed on, but his wife or family are better positioned to talk about it,” confirmed his former teammate Khayelihle ‘Karas’ Dlamini yesterday.

Dlamini said this was sad as he had known the deceased for a long time having grown together at Mhlume United since childhood and then met up at Highlanders in 2006. He then left Highlanders after almost two seasons to join XI Men in Flight before joining Young Buffaloes.

Soldier

“He was stationed in Nhlangano at Mbangweni as a soldier which is where we fetched him and rushed to hospital where he was admitted,” his wife Fikelephi ‘Mafiki’ Dlamini said when confirming the sad news.

She said her husband tested negative for COVID-19 and the hospital pointed to meningitis as the cause of death. “They suspected it given the symptoms as he was complaining of a severe head ache and drowsiness but it was not at all COVID-19,” she explained.

However, she asked that this publication contact her for more details probably today as the families were due to meet later yesterday.

The deceased joins Highlanders’ legend Timer Mthembu who passed away last December as well as former team doctor Mvumeni Khumalo, who passed on early last month.

Teammates

Meanwhile, the late Mbazo played under the late Francis ‘Mkhulu’ Banda, the late Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati who died last year due to COVID-19, and Godfrey Paradza while other teammates include Eugene Dlamini, Sipho ‘City’ Sibandze and Zondai Nyaungwa to name a few.
