MBABANE – It’s a challenge for most clubs.

Green Mamba has reportedly joined the growing number of elite clubs that will not be paying their players salaries in full.

Information gathered from reliable sources within the Correctional Services outfit has revealed that the club’s management committee had a meeting over a week ago, where it was agreed that the salaries be slashed.

“You will recall that during the first partial lockdown, the salaries were slashed by fifty percent and the players will not be sparred even this time around, although I may not be sure of the percentage this time around.

“The affected players have already been informed of the developments and most of those are civilian players meaning they are not employed at the Correctional Services,” our sources confided.

One of the players affected by the salary cuts but preferred anonymity, confirmed that he had not received his salary in full.

Difficult

“It is a difficult situation for everybody because we are paid to play football, not to sit at home as it is the case now. We were told that the salaries would be cut because of the football suspension and that is the position taken,” the player lamented.

Green Mamba’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mandla Sibiya said salary issues in the club were not discussed in the public domain.

“We have the confidentiality policy at Green Mamba when it comes to salaries for players. This means that we are not mandated to discuss such information in public. For that reason, the issue you are enquiring about will not be discussed in the media,” Sibiya said.

He further pointed out that he was currently on leave and is not privy to the latest developments in the club.

Sibiya, nonetheless, maintained that whether or not such a decision (salary cuts) has been taken, it will not be discussed in any forum outside the club’s structures.
