MBABANE – He has come out to clear the air.

That is Mbabane Highlanders Managing Director (MD) Chief Ally Kgomongwe who has revealed that his intentions were not bad when he bought sworn rivals Mbabane Swallows’ auctioned Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus last Tuesday.

The Pretoria-based businessman was the highest bidder of the bus after Roxy Investment auctioneers were assigned by EswatiniBank to auction the bus to cover arrears of E300 000.

He eventually became the owner of the sprinter after submitting a sealed bid of E355 000 while the second highest bidder offered E352 000 and the third highest bidder offering E350 000.

Speaking on national radio, the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services’ (EBIS) Sports Show yesterday morning, Kgomongwe highlighted that he did not bid for the vehicle just because it belonged to Swallows.

“I never looked at the fact that the name of Mbabane Swallows appeared during the auction. I just looked at the fact that I had money and anything that interests me when I have money, I bought it,” he said.

Kgomongwe said he did not care what the bus was branded or who owned it before it was put on auction.

branded

“Even if it was branded another team, say South Africa’s Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs, as long as that asset was of quality I would go for it,” said the businessman.

He made an example that in his house, there were portraits he bought from a Museum. He said some people had complained that they were very old as some dated back to the 1970s, but he ignored them and kept them for decoration because they were of good quality and made his apartment look nice.

“Once they mentioned the name ‘Mercedes-Benz’ I decided to purchase the bus because that is a quality brand that rarely gets old,” said Kgomongwe.

record

He said what interested him more was the fact that when he checked the record of the bus he found out that it was almost new with a very low mileage.

“It is a 2017 model and this means it’s still an almost brand new vehicle. I never considered anything related to Swallows and I first consulted before bidding for the bus and I was advised to procure it for the people of Mbabane Highlanders,” he said.

Kgomongwe said he did not want to state whether the bus remained the property of the team or personal, but it will be used by the team while he remained its boss.
