MBABANE – After concerns from football stakeholders, Eswatini duo Lwethu Simelane and Mxolisi Tsabedze, who are based in Slovakia, have assured the nation that they are alive and well.

The concerns come from their former club bosses, Denver Sundowns’ Mark Carmichael and Vovovo’s Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe, who both made it known to this publication that they were worried about the players, since it’s been a while since they last heard from them. It was not only them but the football lovers who have been making enquiries with the Sports Desk on the duo’s whereabouts as it’s been two years since they left the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Denver Sundowns goalkeeper Simelane and Vovovo’s Tsabedze left the country in September 2019 to pursue their football career abroad, in Denmark, Europe to be precise.

However, they landed in Slovakia to try their luck. Their initial move from home was for a top Danish side but they did not make it to Denmark. The team from Denmark wanted the duo to join them at the start of the season, which was in August.

However, the deal was stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a result they could not move from Slovakia, where they are currently with SKO Velka IDA.

The Times Sports Desk tried to track them down and eventually got hold of Simelane. In an interview via a video call, the Sundowns goalkeeper said emaSwati should not despair.

“We thank God Almighty that at a time like this, greatly disturbed by a pandemic He has faithfully kept us alive and kept us in His grace,” he said.

Good

“Well, we are doing good in all aspects. Healthy, injury free and happy. As we said before, ours is to focus on what we can control as players, and that consists of our health, fitness, preparation and performance on any given platform (the field of course),” he added.

When asked about their move to Denmark, he said all questions pertaining their deal should be directed to their agent, Pastor McDonald.

Efforts to get comments from McDonald were futile as he said he did not want to talk about this issue in the media. He said if the club bosses were concerned about the welfare of the players, they should contact him since they had his mobile number.

Reached for comment Sundowns boss Carmichael admitted they were worried.
