MBABANE – “Our club is not worried about rejects being auctioned which have long been replaced by brand new assets.”

This was the reaction from Mbabane Swallows Communications and Marketing Manager Manqoba Mabuza after reports of sworn rivals, Mbabane Highlanders Director Ally Kgomongwe’s interest in bidding for the E270 000 former ‘Birds’ 22-seater diesel Sprinter bus which stands to be auctioned this week.

A fired up debate erupted yesterday on social media where soccer fans were questioning Kgomongwe’s intentions of becoming the new owner of the bus which was apparently repossessed by EswatiniBank resulting from unpaid installments valued at E300 000.

Facebook was abuzz as people shared different views on the subject, with some punching holes on Kgomongwe’s level of integrity and professionalism while some saw it as a business opportunity to develop his team. Some of the social media comments cannot be repeated for ethical reasons.

The Mercedes Benz Sprinter 515 CDI P/van was bought by former Mbabane Swallows Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze and remained branded with the Swallows logo long after EswatiniBank claimed ownership following unpaid instalments.

Mabuza, in a statement sent last night, clarified that the sprinter was no longer an asset to his club, stating clearly that Mbabane Swallows currently has a brand new bus under the leadership of the club’s President Bishop Bheki Lukhele.

“We will not stoop so low and talk about names of individuals or other clubs. As Communications and Marketing Manager for Mbabane Swallows, I am not mandated to talk about former assets of the club. Our club is neither selling nor auctioning any bus. We have our own brand new bus,” said Mabuza.
