MBABANE – Exercise, eat healthy and support each other as a family.

Today’s families are busy. COVID-19 hasn’t made things easy with all the frustration, anxiety and heartache resulting from the loss of loved ones during such a challenging period in the history of the 21st century.

Doing things together as a family creates a strong bond between family members who support and encourage each other.

Tears, we shed everyday, but hope is all it takes for humanity to win this battle against COVID-19.

Fitness guru, Lindiwe Mtsetfwa, who is a teacher at KoNtjingila Primary School in the Shiselweni Region, has always been following a strict diet and exercise routine since she started focused training in 2018.

Having spent almost a year outside the classroom following the closure of schools, she has started inculcating the health and fitness culture to her 11-year-old daughter, Sibongokuhle Mamba.

In the absence of busy schedules, thanks to the lockdown situation aimed at mitigating the spread of the fast spreading contagion, the duo have become training partners.

Duty

Quoted in verbatim; “A healthy body is one of the best amours against COVID-19 and other diseases. We talk about the COVID-19 subject daily and as a teacher, my duty goes beyond the classroom. My daughter learns from me and I am her support system,” said Mtsetfwa.

Keeping a roster for their training and ticking along the accomplished daily workouts, makes them look forward to the next challenge.

Mtsetfwa attested that children learn best through experiences and modelling. As a mother who is well-versed in the health and fitness lifestyle, she encourages her daughter not only to exercise but to eat healthy and be fit holistically.

“Building a family that supports and encourages one another takes energy and time. Healthy food can be a challenge for children.

Advice

“My advice to other parents is to share your meals. Eat healthy and your child will do likewise,” she said.

Some of their workouts include running around their house, doing skips using a skipping rope and supplementing weights by filling bottles with sand and water. She also advised parents to ensure that all family members observe the safety and health precautions to avoid more fatalities and give hope for a COVID-19 free world
