MBABANE – Former Mbabane Highlanders and Sihlangu defender Eugene Dlamini has a good heart.

He presented Dark City football team where he started his football career, with T-shirts. Dlamini hails from Dark City, Sidwashini in Mbabane. Through his store business trading as Rainbow Grocery, he presented the t-shirts to Dark City Coach Thulani ‘Tex’ Tsela.

About 20 players would benefit from the kind gesture. Dlamini said he started his football career under Tsela and he was happy that even today he was the coach. “Tsela was my first coach in the team around 1995 and 1996 in the Chappies little league. In those days, football was competitive even at junior level. My journey in football has its origins in this team, which is also in my community. This sponsorship is designed to keep the youngsters interested in football, especially during this COVID-19 dispensation. My experience is that if you stay in football long enough, there’s a strong character that it builds in players because as a player you always want to win - call it a thirst for excellence,” he said.

Dlamini played at Highlanders alongside the likes of Nana ‘Take Me Home’ Dlamini, Mlungisi ‘Madzala’ Ngubane, Vuyani Mazibuko, Khayelihle ‘Karas’ Dlamini, Sipho Sibandze and Msizi Lukhele among others.

Dlamini was full of praise for Tsela as he said he had contributed positively in the community by making sure that the youngsters play football. “This later translates to real life, because as you grow, that thinking mentality becomes crucial as it equips you in dealing with adversity, which everyone faces in life. So, if we keep the youngsters interested in football, we are shaping characters who dare to succeed in their adult lives. We are extremely lucky to have someone like ‘Tex’ in our community who has consistently coached juniors since 1994/5. We will support him by any available means,” he concluded. Tsela said he was happy that people like Dlamini contributed positively to the community they grow up. He said a sport is for community development. Dlamini was not present for the presentation.
