MBABANE – They want to achieve big.

Elite league rookies Tambankulu Callies will be a force to be reckoned with this season if their recent signings are anything to go by.

They are a very ambitious side based on their latest acquisition and targeted signings for the Lowveld-based outfit.

Recently, this publication reported that the 2019/20 MTN National First Division outfit unveiled two top Zimbabwean players, one of which is a striker.

Callies Chairman Ngudze Mamba unveiled the Zimbabwean duo of Alvin Jimmy Twayo and Jayden Pikitai at the team’s home ground, Tambankulu Stadium.

This is not the end, following news that Callies is on the verge of making two more good acquisitions in South African heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs’ Siphelele Ntshangase’s twin brother, Siphamandla and AmaZulu’s development side player Ayanda Xulu.

Drawn for comment, Mamba confirmed that the plan was to soon sign the South African duo to join Callies.

“We are still busy with their paperwork. We are still assessing them and they should have been in the kingdom by now but were delayed due to COVID-19 travel restrictions,” said the chairman.

He added that the players’ passport numbers were already sent to them (Callies) and coaches were yet to finalise assessing them.

“By tomorrow (today), I will have all the details on the way forward and how they will be travelling to the country under the COVID-19 situation,” said Mamba.

The outspoken administrator also divulged that currently, the players were in Johannesburg, South Africa, in readiness for their trip to Eswatini and staying with Siphamandla’s twin brother, Siphelele.

According to the chairman, there is a lot they want to achieve as Callies in the current season, which is why they are signing quality players.

“As we now play in the premier league, it is important to assemble a team that will compete as the intention is to stay in the elite league,” he said.

Mamba added that they were stress-free in as far as relegation was concerned at the end of the season, because they came to the premier league to compete, not just add number or merely participate.

“I have vast experience in football and it is time I implement now. The aim is to compete well in one of the cup competitions and have a good run in the league,” Mamba said.
