CRICKET LEAGUE’S RETURN POSTPONED

MBABANE – Hold your horses.

The much-anticipated return of the Eswatini Cricket Association’s (ECA) Men’s T-20 League 2020/2021 will have to wait a little longer. The games were expected to return on January 17, 2021 after the festive break but due to the two weeks partial lockdown announced by government in light of COVID-19, they were forced to a halt their plans. ECA’s Secretary Musa Tfwala said the progress of the league would all depend on the government’s directives. “Games will continue from where they left off. We were hoping to resume play on Saturday but we will have to wait for government to give us the way forward when the lockdown gets lifted,” said Thwala.

Fixtures

According to the remaining fixtures, which are a contest for the fourth spot in the semi-finals, Cricket Mbabane will battle it out against Sahi XI at in the morning match, followed by the Indian Warriors going up against Dada’s XI at 1pm. The best two teams in Groups A and B will go head to head in the semi-finals. The teams will battle it out in chase of the fourth spot as three teams have already qualified for the semi-finals. These include Season One champions Pak XI, Sahi XI and Malkerns Cricket Club. ECA President Rueben ‘Rhoo’ Nxumalo has advised teams to respect the lockdown regulations by avoiding unnecessary travel and physical contact with other people, especially large gatherings. “Everyone should take the COVID-19 second wave seriously. It’s been bad enough already and we keep losing people on a daily basis. We will advise then next step to take after the partial lockdown but let us continue to wear our masks, sanitize and maintain social distancing,” said Nxumalo.
