WE DID OUR BEST - ‘BUFFS’ COACH

MBABANE – Young Buffaloes coach Sabelo Mnisi believes they did their utmost best to win the second leg of the CAF Champions League.

The coach made these comments after seeing his side lose 4-1(6-3 on aggregate) to DR Congo side AS Vita at Stade des Martyrs de la Pentecôte (Kinshasa) on Wednesday.

The first leg match at Mavuso Sports Centre ended with a 2-all draw on December 22, 2020.

The loss saw the Mnisi-led side losing out the about E8.4 million that is entitled to  the last 16 teams to reach the group stages of the tournament including AS Vita. 

Buffaloes will now play in the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs.

The draw for the CAF Confederations Cup is today.

“We tried our best, but things did not work out. Also, the fact that we were missing some of our key players worked against us,” said Mnisi. 

The army side were without Ali Matse, Wandile ‘Skosh’ Shabangu and Sifiso Mazibuko who were out due to injury. The other three players were ruled out of the away clash due to that they tested positive for COVID-19.

The army side will now have to give their best in the CAF Confederation Cup having played in the same tournament last year and were knocked out by then South Africa Bidvest Wits in the preliminary stage. 

A win for Buffaloes in the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs will see them reaching the group stages.

The team is expected to arrive this afternoon via the Ngwenya Border Gate.
