MBABANE – Despicable.

It would seem the high-rising number of COVID-19 positive cases and deaths in recent days locally do not sound any warning bells for Sigombeni folks.

This follows that the COVID-19 rules and regulations were blatantly disregarded by organisers of a stockvel tournament staged at Phowe Sports Ground in Sigombeni during the festive period.

shocking

Even more shocking is the fact that a number of high-profile premier league players took part in the games, defying a ban by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) against such tournaments. Worth noting is that the games were first played during the Christmas period running through to the Sunday after Boxing Day where winners are said to have been crowned.

The second tournament was then played during the new year long weekend also lasting three days where 18 teams took part, competing for a reported E12 000.

forked

Reliable information gathered is that the 18 participating teams forked out E500 registration fee each, totaling up to E9 000 while the E3 000 is said to have been provided by the organisers, one of which is believed to be an aspirant Member of Parliament (MP) known to this publication, but will not be revealed – at least for now pending further investigations.

The names of the premier league players spotted during the games are also known, but will not be revealed until they have been charged by the relevant authorities.
