MBABANE – It might now not see the light of day.

That is the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) big investment project worth millions of Emalangeni, which has been in the pipeline for years. The outgoing PLE executive led by Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula had identified a business opportunity, where they intended purchasing a corporate complex, around Mbabane, said to be worth E3.5 million, where they would have their head offices housed as well. The plan was to make the infrastructure a profit-generating avenue as there should have been shops operational and offices to let for other businesses. However, the Times Sports Desk has reliably gathered that the new executive led by Mark Carmichael, who was also an executive member of the outgoing committee, was no longer very keen on implementing the project.

Vacating

Before vacating office, the PLE executive member, Sicelo Mkhonta, had highlighted that they were negotiating a bank loan to purchase the reported E3.5 million property situated in the city centre in Mbabane. PLE Executive Member and Head of Finance Victor Rodrigues explained that when the project was introduced while he served as a governor; it was a collective agreement so Carmichael was the right person to address the matter. “The current chairperson was present at the outgoing executive and when the idea was presented we accepted it as Board of Governors (BoGs),” said Rodrigues. The Malanti Chiefs governor added that he was not aware why the project was not implemented as it was long introduced, first during the era of slain PLE Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze, further discussed during the era of Carmichael and Touch while they also served as chairpersons of the organisation.

Discussion

He added that the outgoing executive brought it for discussion to the present executive. Meanwhile, when Mkhonta was drawn for comment, he said as an outgoing executive, they did a handover of everything pertaining to the PLE to the new executive. Drawn for comment on the latest developments, PLE Chairman Carmichael said he was not privy to any bank loan solicited to purchase the property in question.
