NHLANGANO – He has been placed in his final resting place.

The late Sihlangu assistant coach Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini may be gone, but he will certainly not be forgotten as he touched the lives of the people he crossed paths with.

This was evident yesterday as coaches, family, friends, football players and the community gathered in Nhlangano yesterday morning to pay their last respect to the former Mhlambanyatsi Rovers coach.

The funeral was delayed for about three hours as it was set for early in the morning, but ‘Magiyane’ was eventually buried at 10:30am, shortly after the arrival of the hearse.

The mourners were kept waiting with speakers telling their experiences with the late Dlamini who was fully praised as someone who contributed positively in football especially in development.

laid to rest

About 200 people attended the funeral. Dlamini was laid to rest under strict COVID-19 regulations and the bearers wore protective clothing and sanitising was done every now and then.

Dlamini’s colleagues at the Correctional Services bode farewell to the former Moneni Pirates’ coach with a three gun salute and there were tears when his coffin was lowered.

Eswatini Football Association (EFA) representative Sonnyboy Mabuza said they were still shocked by Dlamini’s demise. He admitted that his death was a blow to football in the country as he was good especially in developing young players.

“We are still short of words to describe how we are feeling right now and we send condolences to his family and friends. He was a friend to all of us and we will sadly miss him,” he said. Coach Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini also shared his memories with the late Dlamini. He said he was a good friend and one person who loved football at heart.
