MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders target Tshepo ‘Skhwama’ Matete is set to debut for the ‘Bull’ on Saturday during the clash against newcomers Tinyosi FC.

The player is set to be registered before the game Saturday after impressing at training a fortnight ago. The 29-year-old former Botswana’s Township Rollers, Baroka FC and South Africa’s University of Pretoria is reported to have impressed the Highlanders technical bench headed by Dumisani ‘DU’ Makhanya and Siyabonga Bhembe.

Action

Highlanders return to action on Saturday in the MTN Premier League to play Tinyosi at Mavuso Sports Centre, kickoff is 1:30pm. The fixture will be followed by that of the armed forces derby, Young Buffaloes vs Royal Leopard at 4pm. According to South Africa’s Kick-Off.com, Matete is now expected to team up with former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni at Highlanders.  Highlanders Director, who is a South African businessman, Ally Kgomongwe told kickoff that the possibility of his side signing Matete from South Africa were high as they have one spot for a foreign player. Each club in the country under the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) is set for only five foreign players. “We still have one more space to sign a foreign player. Once the technical team gives me the green light, we will definitely sign him,” Kgomongwe told KickOff.com.

Played

Matete last played for University of Pretoria last season after returning from Botswana, where he turned out for Township Rollers. Highlanders General Manager Benson Dlamini said Matete impressed the technical bench and he was hopeful that they would soon agree on the terms and sign him. “He is a good player but for now he is away and we are expecting him back as he impressed while he was with the team,” he said. Matete watched Highlanders when they won 2-1 against Tambankulu Callies on December 18 at Nsukuwansuku Stadium. Highlanders returned to training after a small break on Sunday in preparations of the third match of the season.
