MTN PREMIER LEAGUE TAKES 2-WEEK BREAK

MBABANE – There will be no football action until January 2, 2021.

The MTN Premier League and the MTN National First Division will take a break and give way to the Christmas holidays and the dancing of the Incwala. Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati released the week-three fixtures that will only resume next year.

Derby

Headlining week-three of the MTN Premier League will be the security forces derby between defending champions Young Buffaloes and Royal Leopard. Log leaders, Denver Sundowns, will face Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows. Other fixtures will see Mbabane Swallows hosting Milling Hot Spurs while Mbabane Highlanders will play newly promoted side Tinyosi. High riding Manzini Wanderers will take on Mhlume Peacemakers and Moneni Pirates will play Malanti Chiefs. There are three games that were cancelled since the league resumed on December 12, 2020. The latest was the armed forces derby between Royal Leopard and Green Mamba that was cancelled by the PLE. Other cancelled fixtures were Manzini Sea Birds against Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows and that of Tambankulu Callies and Moneni Pirates. Both games were in week-one of the fixtures.

Break

The league takes a break with Denver Sundowns at the summit with a superior goal difference, four points after two games. There are five other teams with four points, other being Tinyosi, Manzini Wanderers, Young Buffaloes and Mbabane Highlanders. Sitting at the bottom is Mhlume Peacemakers who have lost both their opening matches. They have zero points with Moneni Pirates and Tambankulu Callies. The break comes at a time when some teams have positive COVID-19 cases and over 10 players including the MTN Premier League and MTN National First Division teams who were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
