MBABANE – Only five foreign players can be registered by one team per season in the country’s top flight football.

Giants Mbabane Highlanders already had four under their employment while they have Ghanaian forward Johnson Mensah and now Tokelo Rantie expected to join in next week. The former Manzini Wanderers forward who has reportedly been impressive and even scored and assisted last weekend in Big Bend during practise matches against Illovo and Madlenya FC finds himself competing with Rantie for the final spot.

However, there had been reports recently in this publication that the technical bench had recommended the signing of Mensah as well as Rantie and sacrifice young winger Kenneth Moloto from Ally’s Tigers. Moloto joined Highlanders last season and impressed in every match, but sustained an injury that is said to be still haunting him.

“Nothing has been decided yet about Mensah up to this far. As a club we’re having constant meetings especially with the technical bench. In the end, we want the best quality we can have so we’ll decide together the way forward as we’ve still got rantie coming to join us as well,” the club’s South African director, businessman and politician Chief Ally Kgomongwe clarified.

He said this was not a one-man issue but it must be a collective decision. He said they had to go with the stipulated foreign quota limit. He insisted that whatever the decision, it would be a collective one.
