SITEKI – The improved attendance during the Mandla Simelane Road Classic was due to the fact that a majority of the participants came in groups, clubs or families.

There were over 100 cyclists who participated in the Mandla Simelane Road Classic, which was held at Siteki over the weekend. Some of the clubs that came in large groups included Newcom Wheels, Dig Deep and 4eva cycling just to mention a few. Then there were those who came along with their family members while others participated in the four-pronged race as friends. Some of the families that were part of the race were the Mkhabela family, Nhlabatsi family and Masango family.

Speaking after the race, Lungile Mkhabela, who was joined by her son Zwide Nxumalo, said it was of paramount importance to involve children in sports at a tender age.

“Cycling is one sport that has no limits on age groups. The young and old can do this sport. It helps to keep one fit and healthy,” said Mkhabela.

Malvin Masango also said he was happy to have brought his daughter Chiedza along. “She insisted that we come here and we really enjoyed ourselves,” he said.

The winner of the 5km ladies category, Sinokuhle Nhlabatsi, is Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) President Sihlangu Nhlabatsi’s daughter.
