MBABANE – It is an attractive deal for Sihlangu.

Independent investigations by this publication have uncovered that the recently announced Umbro technical sponsorship deal, for the local senior national team (Sihlangu), is worth not less than E1.5 million.

The deal, confirmed by the parties involved, being the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) and Umbro South Africa is expected to be launched very soon as negotiations are almost done now.

According to impeccable sources at the EFA, there are certain things pertaining to the deal that are still being finalised with Umbro representatives.

logistics

“The fact that Sihlangu are already using the Umbro kit means that the deal is now done, with just a few logistics that must be ironed out. From Sihlangu’s point of view, this is a good deal which really makes the branding of the squad more appealing. You will remember that the squad has been using different brands and with Umbro now on board, it puts things into perspective in terms of the right kit. We are talking of a deal worth not less than E1.5 million, which is good news for Sihlangu,” our trusted source in the EFA executive committee said.

It is expected that the deal will be officially launched in the country as soon as it is finalised by the relevant parties.

EFA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu was contacted to shed light on the issue and his response was that information was not yet ready for public consumption.

controlled

“This is controlled (deal with Umbro) and certain things have not yet been finalised. The details of the deal will be made available once we are through with the talks with Umbro representatives,” he said.

The EFA CEO added that the reason the national team was already using the kit even though the deal has not yet been officially agreed upon, was caused by the fact that Sihlangu’s 2022 AFCON Qualifier against Congo Brazzaville was played before the agreement with the sponsor could be endorsed.

“Talks are ongoing with Umbro and we hope to inform the public of developments soon. What I can confirm is that the deal is almost done,” he said. Umbro, through the statement released by EFA confirmed the partnership with Sihlangu even though full details were not discussed.
