MBABANE – All personnel attending the second leg match between Sihlangu and Congo Brazzaville will have to undergo COVID-19 tests.

These are part of the rules and regulations released by the Confederations of African Football (CAF).

This includes match participants e.g, teams delegation, match officials, CAF match appointees, media, medical staff and close security among others.

Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu said mandatory PCR tests should be conducted no earlier than 48 hours before the match participants access the stadium.

There is no game to be postponed or cancelled should there be a positive test, with the national team, Sihlangu to play Congo Brazzaville this evening and on Monday.

Sihlangu underwent the COVID-19 test yesterday in Congo Brazzaville and the same will happen with Congo when they arrive in the country as they will be compelled to test.

CAF released a stament that gave out the protocol to be followed during the games played under the COVID-19 environment. “In case a participating team cannot travel to the host country and/or venue of a match due to any travel or other restriction relating to COVID-19, the participating team in question shall be considered to have lost the match 2 – 0,” reads the CAF statement.

Regulations

According to COVID-19 regulations, if a team does not have the minimum number of 11 players including goalkeeper plus four substitutes to play a match, the team will be considered to have lost the match 2- 0. It is recommended that teams or nations travel with the maximum number of players possible to replace any COVID-19 positive players.

Sihlangu has travelled with 20 players and their COVID-19 test results were pending by last night. Mngomezulu said there were a lot of changes that would be happening when the country hosts Congo Brazzaville.
