MBABANE – Compensation will not come easy for premier league teams.

It has been gathered that for elite league clubs to get compensation for playing games without fans when the new season starts, they are obligated to produce past season’s financial records.

This is in respect of gate-collections in all the games each club played during the season in question and documentation must be produced to the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) before such funds can be made available to the elite clubs through the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE).

This has already been communicated to the different clubs through workshops conducted by the country’s football mother body to educate them (clubs) about the football resumption plan and the COVID-19 protocols that must be applied accordingly.

distribution

It was reported that the country’s traditional big three, Mbabane Swallows, Manzini Wanderers and Mbabane Highlanders made it clear that they were not happy with receiving share of the money with teams that had little spectators. They proposed that the distribution ratio must differ from club to another based on the spectatorship they bring to stadiums.

It is apparently in this regard that the EFA decided that each club produce valid financial records reflecting their gate collections in the past season so that they are compensated according to the money they make per game from spectators.

The elite clubs have also reportedly been told that they can only access the money when the games officially start because the objective by the EFA is not to fund their pre-season training but compensate them for loss of revenue through gate-takings as fans will not be allowed to watch games.

EFA’s Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said to his knowledge, compensation for playing without fans will only apply when the new season officially kicks off.

“This has previously been explained by the EFA CEO and the position has not changed. The compensation from the EFA for premier league clubs is strictly for loss of gate takings revenue as we all know that fans will not be allowed to watch the games.
