SUPPORTERS DEFY ELDERS, APPOINT INTERIM NSC

MANZINI – Defiance! This word can best describe the situation at Manzini Wanderers after supporters installed an interim national supporters’ committee (NSC).

This happened yesterday at the team offices where supporters appointed a seven-member interim NSC that will be in office until an official committee is appointed by supporters during their annual general meeting (AGM). This, occurred just when the team elders, in a meeting last Wednesday, disbanded both the management committee (MC) and NSC.

The supporters, who were found assembled at the team offices in Manzini, alleged that the elders did not have the authority, as per the teams constitution; to dissolve the NSC but only the supporters had those powers as they were the ones who appointed the committee into office.

Interestingly, vocal and long-serving official, Vusi ‘Majay’vane Dlamini, who was part of the disbanded MC as the brand manager, was appointed as the interim committee chairperson.

The vice president and secretary are also familiar faces at the ‘Weslians’ NSC in Mduduzi Vilakati and Muzi Mahlalela respectively. Members of the committee are Bhekithemba Shongwe, Mduduzi Dlamini, Sabelo Sibandze and Jabulani Dlamini.

The supporters made emphasis that the appointment of the interim NSC was not meant for fighting but rebuilding the team. “We were sent here not to destroy the team but to build even for future generations,” said one supporter during the meeting.

powers

The chairman said supporters had resolved to reinstate the NSC as the structure that dissolved it did not have the powers to do so.

The vice chairperson said he had asked on the day the elders dissolved the NSC who mandated them to do so as the constitution only gave supporters the powers to appoint and dissolve a NSC.

It also transpired during the meeting that what further caused confusion was that the team used its constitution and the document that identified Wanderers as a company for making decisions.

The chairman said it was imperative that they had a structure that deliberated on supporters’ issues at the team, hence the decision to appoint the interim NSC. “We want to fix Manzini Wanderers’ house so that even when the new director arrives, he finds everything in order,” said the chairman.

Other supporters pledged their full support behind the NSC and promised to back them up when they faced intimidation and threats from other individuals.

The interim committee vowed to continue holding meetings and not to be threatened by any individual as they said they were prepared to die for Wanderers if it called for that.

Drawn for comment, Council of Elders Chairman Joe Nkumane said he was in a meeting and dropped the phone before this reporter could ask questions.
