MBABANE – A new era has dawned at Moneni Pirates.

The Buccaneers of Moneni are reportedly soon to welcome a new director who is a South African advocate who is reported to have agreed terms with the team to take over as a director.

The ‘Sea Robbers’ have been struggling since the departure of businessman December Mavimbela. Pirates have been run by team officials who received assistance from supporters.

The team’s marketing department has also been one of the most vibrant marketing departments for local teams coming up with innovative means for the sustainability of the club. Pirates have, in recent times, managed to get a number of sponsors.

They are currently the team with the most sponsors.

According to informed sources, Pirates officials were in South Africa over the past weekend where they met the advocate and finalised the deal. “Talks were fruitful this past weekend between Moneni Pirates and the potential director. In essence, it is a done deal despite that they must tie a few loose ends to make it official,” confided a source.

Official

Drawn for comment on the matter, Pirates’ Corporate Affairs Manager Mhlonishwa Motsa said nothing official had been reported to them.

He said they were not aware of the matter and insisted they would not comment unless they had proof, documentation or recording of the fact that the advocate was linked with taking over the reins at the buccaneers. “It is true that we have always wanted a director but I have not heard anything about him,” said Motsa.

Meanwhile, the team’s General Manager (GM) Brian Magagula also did not want to commit himself and said the issue of the South African director was something they had not yet discussed in their meetings.

He said they were in another meeting yesterday with Motsa and other officials and they were looking at how best they could prepare for the start of the new season. “Yes, we would be happy to get a director but we have not yet heard about the South African director, which is something big if it is true,” said Magagula.

The GM added that they could not, therefore, comment on something they did not know.

However, he said it was a matter they were going to closely follow and if it came out true, they would call a press conference to inform the public. He also mentioned that their hands were wide open for anyone who wanted to help the team.

Litigation

Meanwhile, the advocate is a Superior Courts Litigation and part-time lecturer in Johannesburg. Efforts to get comment from the advocate proved futile as he could not be reached on his mobile phone despite repeated attempts.

Meanwhile, FIFA-accredited agent Dingane Maduma confirmed in a brief interview last night that he was handling the deal between Pirates and the SA advocate
