MBABANE – Milling Hotspurs midfielder Lungelo Mngomezulu is headed for the big stage after being invited to undergo trials at South Africa’s Uthongathi FC.

The player is set to sign with the South Africa’s GladAfrica Championships side if he impresses the technical bench headed by Coach Pitso Dladla. A source close to the matter confirmed that Uthongathi FC has been monitoring the player before the COVID-19 outbreak led to the suspension of football in March. The 25-year-old will do the trials under Coach Pitso Dladla who will be assisted by Golden Arrows legend and former MDC assistant coach Papi Zothwane who joined the team last week as they look to rebuild for the new season.

Uthongathi finished sixth last season in the GladAfrica Championship after a good start in the season. The Cane Cutters based at Uthongathi in the KwaZulu Natal (KZN) failed to qualify for PSL promotion/ relegation playoffs despite starting the GladAfrica Championship season on a very high note as they looked to gain automatic promotion. Milling Hotspurs, Director Ivan Munroe confirmed the departure of the player for the trials. He wished him well and said they were happy as a team when their players head for greener pastures.

He said there is no way they could have stood in the player’s way in trying his luck with the South African side. “He is important to the team but when such an opportunity avails itself, he has to grab it with both hands and we are fully supporting him. We wish he will do well during the trials and sign for the club, something that will be good for him, us and the country,” he said. Meanwhile, Munroe said as a club, they were awaiting a correspondence from the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) over the training resumption.
