MATSAPHA – The Eswatini Gymnastics Federation (EGF) President, Fred Mc Fadden, missed the Annual General Meeting (AGM) after being involved in an accident a day prior.

The federation held its AGM yesterday at Rudi’s Kitchen, Matsapha and the news of Mc Fadden’s accident were relayed by Secretary General Muriel Hofer. Though details of the accident were scanty, Hofer highlighted that the president could have attended the meeting, but he informed her that he could not after being involved in an accident. The secretary general said Mc Fadden could not give full details about the accident and they were not sure whether it was a car accident or not. “He sent me a message yesterday informing me that he had an accident and dislocated a shoulder and therefore, he could not attend to the meeting,” said Hofer. Meanwhile, the federation’s next AGM will be elective. However, the executive must fill the vacancy of the vice-president after Penga Vunga left the position due to educational commitments.

Nominated

Two candidates were nominated to fill the vacancy and they are Maxwell Ngwenya and Buhle Fakudze. “The executive also reserves the right to co-opt the vice president as given powers by the constitution,” said Hofer. On another note, four members of the federation were selected to form part of the newly established Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) sports commissions. Maxwell Ngwenya would be part of women and sports, Hofer would be part of the sports for all commission, then Kim for coaches’ commission and Khombisa for disability sports commission. Hofer said disability was incorporated for in gymnastics making an example of athletes with autism or down syndrome. She further urged, especially executive members, to advertise the sport, invite corporate people to sponsor gymnastics, which she said was how they got sponsors in the past.
